Overview: FRAIM

Forward Ready Advanced Information Module

FRAIM is a calling card at Hourglass, as we’ve been entrusted to develop and deliver this lifesaving device for United States Special Operations Command.

What it Does

  • FRAIM is a warfighter-tailored augmented reality (AR) headset that delivers lifesaving functionality for frontline tactical combat casualty care (TCCC) providers.

  • FRAIM offers a durable near-eye monocular display, bright-white illumination, two-way bone conductive audio communication, and first-person perspective remote video, packaged in an all-new form factor.

How it Works

  • FRAIM is controlled 100% hands-free without any touch, voice, or movement via Hourglass’s patented “Clench-Switch” interactive technology.

  • Clench-Switch senses light clenching of the jaw, translating specific patterns (double-clench, clench-and-hold, etc.) into distinct system commands.

Commercialization Efforts

  • Hourglass has been developing FRAIM under a government contract with United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) for over two years.

  • FRAIM prototypes were showcased at a large USSOCOM capabilities exercise, where it underwent rigorous evaluation during live mass casualty simulations, demonstrating its effectiveness in real-world scenarios.

  • There is a high level of confidence in ongoing government funding for FRAIM, with commitments to provide the necessary resources for full commercialization and fielding. Conversations with key leaders from various military branches, including the US Army and Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict, explored expanded applications for FRAIM beyond medical use cases, indicating its potential for broader adoption across military operations.
